Gone to the dogs: Invercargill Mayor Tim Shadbolt
Tim Shadbolt - Visits Hearing Dogs Training Centre
On his travels our Patron took time to visit the National Training Centre of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People New Zealand. Tim was met by our Executive Chairman Frank Lowry. Afternoon tea was put on by staff, volunteers and local hearing dog recipients.
Director of Services, Clare McLaughlin gave Tim Shadbolt a welcomed tour of the training facilities and a run down on the daily activities involed in training hearing dogs. This opportunity to meet face to face and work together for the future of Hearing Dogs was of great value.
Local press were also interested in this visit and Tim was quoted in the Daily News as saying "Time spent on the end of a pneumatic drill during the building of the Manapuri Power Station project in the 1960s left Mr Shadbolt with his own hearing problems, giving him a genuine interest in the hearing dog organisation".
